One of the first battles you face on the way to being a more competent ‘ukulele player is learning the notes and where they are located on the fingerboard. Not just: [pause] “…there’s F”, but BOOM! Almost instantly you can find the nearest location of that one note you are looking for. It takes time.. .. read more..

Friday, July 30, 2010

I just created a new page for blank resource sheets such as chord charts and tab. I’ve had some blank sheets floating around the site for a while but I also added a fretboard chart with note names and one without. You can use the one with note names to find new chords – circle [...] .. read more..

Kala Round-About Amps, Rickenbacker: Ukulele Window Shopping
Friday, July 30, 2010

Kala's roundabout ukulele amps are now up for sale. They're only 10 Watts so you're not going to be playing Carnegie Hall with them. Most interesting uke this week is this 1930s electric Rickenbacker ukulele . It has to be a one off. The price and rarity makes it collectors only, but you have to re.. .. read more..

Friday Links
Friday, July 30, 2010

Pretty good article on the uke resurgence on SFGate (via Ukulelia ). The usual stuff but done more intelligently. Can anyone enlighten me as to where in I'm Yours this ukulele that everyone talks about is? Jim D'Ville asks National Reso-Phonic three questions .   WHERE TO BUY IN THE GTA
Sadly, no one single outlet adequately services the exploding GTA ukulele community with a broad range of instruments and accessories. We would gladly work closely and support one if it did.
  • Broadway Music: Heather and Michael's fabulous store in Orangeville carries a nice selection of Kala and Oscar Schmidt. If you ask nicely, they will personally deliver. They offer the must-have official CUJAM (KC-02) tuner at a very reasonable $19.95 + tax.
  • String Along: The Ruplens are in Dundas Ontario and offer our members 10% on Ohana and accesories deliver directly to members as often as possible.
  • The 12th Fret: This high-end fretted instrument shop offers the best breadth of selection in the city.
  • Remenyi House of Music: This wonderful Bloor Street store offers a decent selection of lower middle range ukes.
  • Long & McQuade: Decent selection and good pricing on lower end instruments. Nothing in the upper middle and better ranges.
  • Steve's Music: Toronto's WalMart of music. OK selection and decent pricing on lower-end instruments. Ensure the tuning gears don't jam and the paint job isn't shoddy in that Mahalo you're about to buy for your room-mate.
  • Musideum: Very limited selection of hard-to-find high end ukes amongst one of the most interesting MI collections you'll ever see. A must-visit, just for the experience.
